Week 4
Recap
Hey all you basketball fans
out there in cyberspace, welcome back for another week of action and fun in the
CEBCFL. Some other dude is here tonight to give you all the recap you need and
love. The night started out with a roar and without further ado, lets dig in.
White vs. Turquoise
ROOOAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I told you. That was the battle cry of Sweet Money aka Timmoney Ng as he
smashed the ball away from team Turquoise at tip off. From the get go you could
see it in his eyes that he was full of energy, excitement and PASSION for the
game! Could this have been Sweet Money’s way of getting his team pumped? All
was good until he smashed the ball out of bounds and it was Turquoise’s ball.
The White team had come
fresh from a loss in a grueling overtime match against team Purple. That was
all history to team White. They were fired up and hungry for a win.
Team Turquoise got off to a
slow start and let the White team jump ahead to a commanding lead of 16-8 with
10 minutes left to play in the first half. The story of this game was in the
rebounds. The White team had built some confidence with the lead and was
crashing the boards hard. They were making all sorts of lay ups and put backs
in the paint which was lead by the efforts of Hans Monsanto and Matt Peng.
General JJ He was also causing quite the storm with some crafty drives to the
hoop. JJ He finished with a team high of 9 points and 4 personal fouls (his
next highest stat). Eugene Tse scored 0 pts but he took a crucial charge
against Raymond Loi that turned around what would have been an and 1 play.
Team Turquoise started the
second half with their work cut out for them. They were behind by double
digits. Being pushed to the verge of being out of reach of a win, Team
Turquoise’s Raymond Loi started the second half aggressive (12pts, 6 rebs).
Recognizing that Team White’s General JJ He was guarding him, Raymond took it
to the hoop, earning him a couple of and 1 plays. Calvin Chiu also made some
much needed buckets (6pts) to spur a comeback which got the score within single
digits.
Team White had 6 of 10
people with FG%s of 50% or more, where as team Turquoise only had 1 out of 10.
White team’s good selection of shots and scoring efficiency dealt a devastating
blow in the 1st half and it turned out to be too much of a lead for
team Turquoise to overcome. The White team held on for their much deserved
first win 47-38.
Red vs. Green
Team Red comes into this
game with a three game win streak. For all you Modern Warfare 2 fans out there,
there are no win streak rewards in this league but one could only imagine what
if…..
Team Green should feel good
about themselves coming into this game with a win over the Turquoise team last
week. In that game Ryan Instant Offense Susanto turned the heat up to full
blast as he shot 9/11 FGs with 4/5 beyond the arc. Can this Red team be
stopped? If anyone is going to pull it off, it will probably be the Green team.
Both teams were battling
hard, but it was the Red team that was able to create a little bit of a
cushion. The Red team lead 22-15 with 6:45 to play in the first half. Even with
the lead, coach of the year favorite Ethan “I can get them to say anything I
want” Chan spurs his team to try harder by threatening to sub them out. His
exact words were “Who needs a sub!?” It seemed to work seeing that his team had
6 of 10 people shooting over 50%. Trey Park had himself a game (15pts ). He was
7 for 11 on free throws. This guy can get to the line! Sylvester Chiu was up to
his usual thing, scoring (12 pts, 6 rebs). To top it off, the Red team had 3 of
10 people with 100% FG%. Cameron Lew was leading this pack shooting 4 for 4.
The Green team had to really
battle hard in the second half to stay close. Ryan lead the way with (24 pts, 5
rebs, 58.33% FG%, 66.67% 3PT%) followed by Jeff Chan (16 pts, 4 rebs, 58.33%
FG%). The green team was doing well to stay in the game with the heavy scoring
resting on the shoulders of Ryan and Jeff, but in the end the Red team proved
to be too much fire power. The Red team ended up winning 61-51.
Black vs. Purple
Before the match had even
started a technical foul was given to Black team’s Corey Yamamoto for not
wearing his league t-shirt. Jon Yee of the purple team was sent to shoot the
free throw with all eyes on him and Oz on the side yelling at Jon to prove him
wrong. Could he make it!? Purple lead 1-0 with 20 minutes to play in the 1st.
In a similar situation where
Alan Lin of the Black team also forgot his t-shirt, sources say that captain
Col had the following response: “I’m okay if we lose by 10 this match, but if
we lose by 1, man oh man…”.
The match started off with
Greg Wong Beast Wong dominating the tip off and knocking the ball towards the
basket to a wide open James Lee for the lay up and Greg’s first assist of the
ball game. However, probably due to cold hands and opening jitters, James
misses the lay up.
Alan the Vortex Lin (14 pts,
12 rebs, 2 blks) from the Black team was working hard from the start with an
early steal and bucket conversion. He was also doing plenty of his famous
spinning in the paint to throw off a defender or two. Added to this, he threw
in a 3pt for good measure and a ferocious block that sounded more like a
volleyball spike.
The score was 11-5 with team
Black in the lead and 9:30 to play in the 1st half. Trailing by 6,
team purple was able to come back with 2 consecutive buckets to bring the gap
to 2 pts 11-9. One of those buckets was from David Miers of team Purple had a
pretty reversal in traffic. The Black team then made 2 consecutive buckets of
their own with a scoop to the hoop by Chris Leong to bring the score to 15-9.
Starting the second half,
the Black team continued to apply pressure to try and widen the lead. With
18:13 left to play, the score was at 20-13. Team Purple had to change up the
way they were playing quick if they were going to get back in this game.
The change came and it was
lead by Wong Beast aka Greg Wong of team Purple (8pts, 5 reb, 57.14% FG%). Greg
started the run by grabbing his own rebound off of the side of the backboard
and banking it home. Then he blocks a shot attempt from the Black team out of
the air like a fly swat to a fly. The score was 25-21 with team Black still in
the lead and 10:18 to play. Armando makes an and 1 play and Greg makes another
bucket to tie the game at 25 a piece with 8:30 left to play.
Team Black eventually was
able to break open the lead with a 12-2 run. Team purple just didn’t have
enough scoring power and scoring opportunity. Team Black had 30 team rebounds
to team Purple’s 18. The final score was 37-27.
