RYBOY’S FRIDAY BLOG and Season
Summary and Awards
Confetti
rained down from the sky as did the tears of joy, for others tears of
sadness. Unfortunately, the CEBC
friendship league came to a close last Tuesday.
Emotions ran away from the green team who took CEBC friendship league’s
most coveted prize. The green team,
coached by John Kwok, is now etched in Cornerstone record books, forever
encased in glory row. The championship
game was played at a frenetic pace at both ends of the court. See below for game recap summary for details.

Game Recaps:
Winner:
White 48 Loser: Blue 43
This was the “formality”
game. It was like the OLD Warriors and
Bucks game at the end of the regular season, where both were hoping to lose to
better their draft position.
Darryl Greene had his most impressive game of the season, finishing with a stat
line that was unprecedented. His final
tally was 27 pts, 16 rebs, 2 asts, 3stls, and 2 blks.
The league has named
Darryl Greene and Greg Wong player of the week. The first win of the season came at a great
time. Although it was the last game of
the season, Octavio Jimenez, had the team inspired. The blue team shot a dismal 28.57% from the
field and could not get the offensive rhythm going. Point Center Brian Chew went 0-4 while being shadowed
by Darryl Greene most of the game. DG was
the only player to score in double digits while Kevin Mau chipped it with
9. The blue team, slated to finish in
first place according to B Chew’s rankings*, finished in last place. The white team ended on a high note but must
improve their backcourt play to be successful.
*B Chew who wrote the up
the preseason rankings is incidentally also the coach of the blue team
Winner: Red 57 Loser: Black 52
Nothing changed this late Tuesday night.
The red team continued to dominate the Black team. Anthony Pineda had a strong game and
finished with 20 pts and 9 rebs but could not contain Greg Wong who is a match
up nightmare to almost every team. His
speed gives taller players trouble and his size and strength give smaller
players trouble. Greg Wong finished with
20 pts and 18 rebs. In the end, Wong and
Acosta were too strong on the offensive and defensive boards. The Red team finished 3rd overall,
but will be a force next season. Black,
the surprise team of the year, finished 3-4.
They will be back next season.
They could improve by adding a big man or a slasher to the roster.
Winner: Green 46 Loser: Gray 35
The championship game was played at a frenetic pace the whole game. The gray team who was on a tear late in the
season, tried to establish a running game, but was stopped short because of the
green team’s ability to play good man to man defense. The green team improved drastically this
season, in part to Norman Siu’s ability to guard the opposing team’s best
player. The green team stuck to their
bread and butter and limited the gray team to 29.95% shooting. They also hit crucial free throws at the end
to keep the game out of reach. Again, led
by Sherman Lee and John Chang, the green team got enough offense to get by the
gray team. I was watching Barry Bonds
steal a base early this season.
Questions suddenly popped in my mind like: Did he just do that?!? How?!?
What the heck just happened?!? Is
this reality!?? What dream am I
in!?? Likewise, when Matt Hedges goes
coast to coast the same questions fill my mind. Matt Hedges and Colman Chung tried to
establish the pace by going full throttle to the hoop, but it was not enough to
deny the green team its first championship. The green team hit their free throws in the
end to extend the lead and they never relinquished the lead. Sources tell me the green team’s coach has
already predicted a repeat next year.

CEBC Objectives and league note:
The league office thanks
all the participants, refs, and scorekeepers.
The league was a success thanks to everyone who had a hand in it. Friendships were made, some basketball and
competition were displayed, ideas were discussed, and ideas and arguments for
Christ were offered. By now our main
objective for this friendship league should be clear: to share the love of
Christ to our friends.
If you want a topic
handout for any of the weeks feel free to talk to your team captain or email me
